A TOOWOOMBA man who crashed his ute into a tree is the latest victim of one of the region's deadliest roads.

Yesterday's horrific fatal crash outside Biddeston brought the toll on Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Rd to at least 14 since 2007.

The stretch of road, which has clearly-marked warning signs against speeding, has also featured in almost 25 known crashes during that same period.

Police called on dash cam footage from the public to help investigations into the incident, which occurred at 6.15am when the white Holden Commodore ute struck a tree.

The car was headed west on Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Rd when it left the road near Biddeston.

Toowoomba Inspector Sharee Cumming said speed was being investigated as a factor in the crash that claimed the 35-year-old Newtown man's life.

"We're currently investigating whether speed may be a factor, but I don't want to speculate," she said at the scene.

"It appears at this point that the vehicle has collided with a tree, but as to the actual cause, that is still under investigation.

"Any traffic crash is sad and certainly when people are seriously injured or die as a result, it's a tragedy.

"As usual, we're always imploring members of the public to drive to the conditions and drive safely."

Insp Cumming said emergency services were notified by a couple driving past the crash. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Soon after the accident occurred, a local couple have come across the accident and rendered assistance to the driver and then called emergency services," she said.

Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Rd has been described by residents as one of the region's most dangerous, with police making constant reminders to reduce speed and risky behaviour on it.

The worst of these crashes was in 2007, when five people were killed along the road.

One of the victim's fathers, Gavin Simpson, described the horror to The Chronicle of having to identify his daughter's body.

"I ask the young people if they would like their parents to have to identify them," he said in 2011.
