DASHCAM: Truck sends car spinning during merge madness
THE driver of a small sedan had a terrifying collision with a truck after merging on a Brisbane onramp.
A video posted to Dashcam Owners Australia's Facebook site shows the moment of impact.
The small blue sedan is seen to be travelling in the left lane beside the truck on the Wynnum Road onramp.
The truck changes lanes to the left, apparently not seeing the small sedan, which may have been in a blind spot.
As the truck crosses the path of the car it is spun more than 360 degrees in the busy traffic.
According to the person who posted the video, the driver walked away with minor injuries.
The post sparked intense debate as to whether the truck driver or the driver of the sedan was at fault.
Jude A Burke wrote: "I'm usually the first to defend truck drivers but truck driver stuffed up. He would have had field of vision seeing the vehicle coming onto the motor way.
John Lyden agreed: "If the truck can't see there's a car here and make an educated assessment to either slow down to merge or to make sure by view the car is clear, then he/she should hang up the keys..."
Tully Smith-Family, who took the video, said the semi driver did stop and walked/ran back to the scene to check on the welfare of the lady driver.
"He stayed with her until emergency services arrived to make sure she was okay.
"Secondly, in my opinion, the blue car was at speed (this was a 100klm zone), it is one of those unfortunate things that happens, avoidable... Probably.
"The lady is okay but was visibly in shock as can be imagined.
"Don't know if any of you picked it up yet, but things could have been a lot worse with the scissor lift on the tow truck snapping 2 chains.
"Thankfully the planets aligned and it was not worse than what it could of been.
"One thing I would say though is if you do come across an accident like that, try slow down or stop for a few secs to allow the carnage to settle, people were buzzing by as we were trying to get a handle on the situation which was a little bit annoying/dangerous!"
