COAL seam gas is the "fuel of the future" according to Queensland's resources minister, who believes it will sit perfectly alongside renewable energy sources like solar, hydro and wind.

Minister Anthony Lynham was speaking on the Gold Coast when Quipie Shire Mayor Stuart Mackenzie -- whose region has a thriving CSG industry -- said he felt as though the gas was being left out of discussions about energy.

Mr Mackenzie said it was being lumped in with coal as a fossil fuel, and not included when there are talks about power generation.

Fairfax reports Dr Lynham described CSG as the "perfect co-existence model" alongside renewables.

"…Gas is, no doubt, the fuel of the future and I laugh sometimes that when the gas industry first started up in Queensland, some of the conservation groups were promoting it as a clean, green fuel.

"Now, it's the devil. It's the devil reincarnated."
