A 3.5m saltwater crocodile has been spotted at Blacks Beach.

A spokesperson from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection said the department received the report this morning.

The crocodile was seen by a member of the public swimming 50m off Blacks Beach.

"The crocodile appeared to passing through the area," the spokesperson said.

"Recent sighting signs will be erected today.

"Crocodiles are often observed in offshore waters, as they swim in the ocean to move from one waterway system to another.

The EHP spokesperson said they will continue to monitor Blacks Beach and all sightings should be reported on 1300 130 372 as soon as possible.
