Crash victim who bit and punched helpers tasered by police

A MAN who bit one emergency woker and punched another has been tasered by police after a crash in Myrtle near Proserpine early Christmas morning.

Around 1.45am, police attended the Bruce Highway after reports a car had crashed into a ditch on the southbound side of the highway.

Two emergency services workers assisted to remove an unconscious 25-year-old man from the vehicle.

As they were doing so, he regained consciousness and allegedly became violent towards them - biting one and punching the other, police said.

As police attempted to take the man into custody, he allegedly obstructed the officers by continuing to display aggressive behaviour

Fearing for their wellbeing, an officer successfully deployed his taser.

The man was then taken into custody without further incident and received medical treatment.

A subsequent search of the vehicle located a small amount of cannabis and other drug utensils.

The Park Avenue (Rockhampton) man has been charged with obstruct police, possess utensils, possess anything used in the commission of crime, possessing dangerous drugs and serious assault of a public officer.

He is due to appear in Prosperpine Magistrates Court tomorrow.
