Candidate turns to the Greens to help city

FORTY-five-year-old Craig Tomsett is the Greens candidate to contest the seat of Gladstone in the January 31 Queensland State Election.

Mr Tomsett, who describes himself as a hospitality professional, campaigned as an independent in the 2013 Federal Election in the seat of Flynn.

He said yesterday when announcing his candidacy that after the 2013 election experience he had researched all of the parties' policies and decided that the Greens was the only party he could represent to ensure the community moved forward in a sustainable way.

"The issues haven't gone away - we just have to find sustainable solutions and make sure the community and industry can co-exist," he said.

"We can't allow the big corporations to come in to regional Queensland and not co-exist.

"We need to make sure that when things go wrong the companies have set aside the funds to clean up the mess.

"We live in an industrial town, but that doesn't mean that monitoring of air and water shouldn't be better, and all data should be in one place, not five as it is at present."
