Councillor caught up in Las Vegas mayhem

TOWNSVILLE councillor Margie Ryder has told of the terror she felt after being caught up in the panic caused by yesterday's mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Cr Ryder is on holiday in the US with her husband Geoff and their friend Robert Curley. They were at Caesars Palace casino when reports of a shooting emerged.

"We saw it on the news and said we'd better go home," she said from her hotel room last night.

"We were all walking (out) and that's when a hundred people came running at us and said, 'The shooter's coming'."

Cr Ryder said the crowd had been misinformed that the shooter was on the Las Vegas strip, when in fact he was at Mandalay Bay casino shooting at crowds at a music festival.
