Council shuts down CBD

TOOWOOMBA Regional Council road maintenance crews are working around the clock to clean up and repair any damage caused by yesterday’s freak storm.

An area bounded by Clifford, Mylne, Russell and Mort streets to the west, Bridge Street to the north, Ruthven to Campbell, Hume Street to Neil and Neil to Herries has been cordoned off to allow council crews to continue the cleanup uninterrupted.

Sightseers and pedestrians are encouraged to stay out of the CBD and drivers to stay off the roads to allow workers to do their job and business owners and operators to attend to their properties.

Extra council personnel and resources have been delegated to the clean up and will attempt to get the CBD ready to be reopened to the public as soon as possible.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution when allowed to re-enter the CBD as flood waters have damaged much of the road pavement and footpaths around the city.

Council urges that only those people doing business in the city centre come into the CBD today.

Anyone needing urgent SES help should call 1300 655 833. Those wishing to notify council of a service disruption or other council-related matter should call 4688 6611.
