Council employee calls park defenders 'hippie ****wits'

A TOOWOOMBA Regional Council employee could this morning face questions over a vile online comment directed at opponents of plans to build detention basins in two parks.

East Creek Park Defenders member Shirley Dunsdon said she noticed the comment on the Lehmann Park Under Threat Facebook page about 9.20pm Saturday.

A censored version of the comment reads "You are all ****wits get over it and start protesting about more important **** than grass and trees you hippie ***** raping ****heads".

Mrs Dunsdon said further investigation of the man's Facebook profile indicated he worked at Toowoomba Regional Council.

"I was actually shocked," Mrs Dunsdon said.

She said her group was fighting for something its members thought was right.

"We are not interested in that sort of rot.

"Things like this aren't nice and are very unnecessary."

She said the Facebook post had since been removed.

Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio said he had been informed of the incident.

Cr Antonio said he was aware the man who made the comment could be a council employee.

He did not want to comment further except to say it would be a matter for the council's CEO to investigate today.
