Council heads to Canberra

LOCKYER Valley Youth Councillors were introduced to Australia's largest tier of government as they travelled to the nation's capital earlier this month.

The expedition to Canberra was funded by the Lockyer Valley Regional Council and also received support from the Gatton Rotary Club which contributed more than $13,500 towards the trip.

The 14 members of the Youth Council were accompanied on the trip by Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones, Cr Tanya Milligan and Council's Community and Youth Engagement Officer, Janis Hall.

Cr Jones said for some the trip was the first time they had travelled out of Queensland.

“The trip is designed to have significant benefits for the 14 young people who took part but it was also intended to give them some time out,” he said.
