Thief makes off with cold pies

NOT even Simple Simon was this bumbling.

While the young boy in the popular nursery rhyme admitted he had no money to pay the pieman, a late-night customer had another idea when he allegedly threatened and robbed a Currimundi baker late Saturday night.

Police said the baker at Pacific Haven Bakery on Buderim St was confronted by an unarmed man covering his face with a t-shirt about 11.45pm.

He allegedly made threats and demanded personal belongings and cash.

They said the man made off with cold pies, energy drinks, a pair of oven mitts and a small amount of money believed to be $1500, but not before spilling one of the stolen drinks and threatening the baker once more.

Police were called and a man was discovered a short time later in a nearby car park.

The baker, who is also the store's owner, was not injured during the incident but was left shaken.

A spokesman for Queensland Police said a man allegedly matching the description of the offender had entered the store moments before the robbery to buy food, before leaving.

Police have charged a 39-year-old man from Battery Hill with one count of robbery.

He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
