Crop of 8000 cannabis plants seized in raid

MORE than 8000 cannabis plants have been discovered growing on a property near Boonah.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Drug and Serious Crime Group seized the plants from a property at Moogerah, 70km south-east of Ipswich.

A search warrant was executed on a property on Revill Rd on Tuesday and officers located the crop and an irrigation system.

Detective Superintendent Jon Wacker said while the crop was not particularly sophisticated in set-up, the number of plants located represented a good haul.

"We will allege the plants, which ranged from small to medium, were grown from seedlings," Supt Wacker said.

"Detectives also discovered a basic irrigation system had been established to water the crop via a buried pipe which was pumping water from a nearby dam.

"In total, 8702 were discovered, most of which have now been destroyed."

A 54-year-old man is being questioned by police.
