Controversial development approved despite exceeding height limits

A UNIT complex beyond Coast height limits will go ahead after being backed by Sunshine Coast councillors.

Cr Greg Rogerson said at Thursday's meeting he supported an extra level being added to a two-storey duplex at Point Cartwright Dr at Buddina, which will take the building's height to 9.61m.

That puts it more than a metre above the 8.5m height limit allowed under the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014.

"This is a common sense decision," Cr Rogerson said.

He said the development would not be out of character with other nearby homes and would not impinge on its neighbours.

A report prepared on behalf of the developer noted the site had three-storey complexes either side of it and a single-storey home behind it.

All councillors except Cr Tim Dwyer and Cr Ted Hungerford voted in favour of the approval.

Cr Jenny McKay is absent from the meeting after her mother passed away overnight.

The meeting was paused for a moment's silence in honour of Cr McKay's mother.
