Communities to soon learn fate of schools facing axe

SCHOOL communities left in limbo by the state government's school sale plan have moved one step closer to receiving answers.

Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said he had read seven of the eight consultant reports, with just Everton Park State High School left to read, Brisbanetimes.com.au reports

But Mr Langbroek did not say when the government would hand down its decision, despite cutting the consultation period short by two weeks in order to give an answer by "early August".

"We have had an overwhelming number of submissions," he said.

Fortitude Valley, Old Yarranlea, Toowoomba South, Charlton, Wyreema and Stuart state schools as well as Nyanda and Everton Park high schools have been identified by the government for possible closure.
