Coffs teacher charged with inciting students to commit crime

A COFFS Harbour teacher has been charged after allegedly recruiting children to engage in criminal activity.

Police had been investigating the alleged vandalism of a home in Urunga on Friday, November 29.

Police will allege alcohol was supplied to three underage girls on the same day.

As a result of these investigations, police executed search warrants on homes in Coffs Harbour and Valla Beach on Wednesday, December 4.

An office at Orara High School was also searched and a number of items seized.

On Thursday, three teenage girls were interviewed at Coffs Harbour Police Station.

Shortly before 11pm yesterday, a 59-year-old male teacher was arrested at a home in Valla Beach.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with:

  • Recruit child to engage in criminal activity (two counts);
  • Malicious damage; and,
  • Supply minor with alcohol.

The man was given strict conditional bail to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday, January 20.

The girls will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
