Man critical after mystery fall

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a mysterious fall causing horrendous injuries in Mooloolaba Saturday night.

A 23-year-old Currimundi man is in a critical condition in Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane with spinal injuries, a fractured neck and skull, and other internal injuries.

Police cordoned off a crime scene between the Mantra resort and Coles Mooloolaba on Venning Street early yesterday morning.

They took swabs from the area and packaged a red t-shirt found on an entrance ramp to the underground car park.

Blood could be seen splattered on the wall and ground where the man must have hit the ground.

Police believe he fell five metres from a building, walkway or structure nearby about 11.40pm on Saturday night but have no idea what led to his fall.

A spokesman said the man was in the area with friends earlier in the evening but it was unclear whether they were still there when he fell.

The incident was reported by a witness who was in the underground car park and saw him hit the ground but did not see the fall itself.

The witness went to his aid and phoned emergency services.

The 23-year-old was taken by ambulance to Nambour General Hospital and then transported by road to Brisbane.

Maroochydore detectives would like to speak to anyone in the vicinity at the time or who witnessed the incident.

If you have any information, please phone Maroochydore police on 5475 2420 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
