Close shave for stranded Brazilian boaties as light fades

TWO BRAZILIAN boaties called for help after their vessel broke down at the Pinnacles, north-east of Rosslyn Bay, about 5.30pm on Boxing Day.

They phoned the manager of the service station at Rosslyn Bay, who in turn raised the alarm with the Yeppoon Coast Guard. Its vessel, Gormans Removals Rescue, took the Brazilians' boat in tow with about four minutes of daylight left and towed it back into harbour at 8pm.

Late on Saturday, a call was received from a 5.5m boat with four people on board broken down off Farnborough Beach, north of Mercure Resort. It was towed in at 6.20pm.

Yesterday, a call was received at 6am from a 10m flybridge cruiser with engine trouble at Fishermans Beach, Great Keppel Island.

It was towed in at 9am.
