THE ENDORSEMENT of a new political candidate quickly became the sideshow as Clive Palmer's launched another bizarre attack on Campbell Newman.

Mr Palmer started the press conference to introduce his candidate for Maroochydore, James McDonald, with a criticism of the Electoral Commission of Queensland.

There were the expected jabs at the sitting candidate, Member for Maroochydore, Fiona Simpson.

But it was in question time that Mr Palmer accused Mr Newman of being a "crook" who was going to call an early election to avoid "jail".

"He's terrified, he doesn't want to go to jail, but he knows he will and so will his Minister's," Mr Palmer said.

"There will be an election on pretty quick, they want to get election on before Christmas, if they can.

"They're terrified the people of Queensland will come forward with the evidence what these guys have been up to.  That's the reality of it."

He also said he would be taking the "Electoral Commissioner and the Queensland Government to the High Court of Australia".

"We will have all these provisions and the Nazi legislation he's brought down negated in any event, be there an election or not," he said.

When asked why Campbell Newman would be going to jail, his response was without hesitation.

"Because he's a crook," he said.

In August last year, Mr Palmer accused Mr Newman of being "bi-polar", raising the ire of the mental health community.
