Classy Ablett in shining form as Suns down Saints

AN OUTSTANDING three-goal first quarter from the ever-classy Gary Ablett saw the Gold Coast Suns prevail 19.11 (125) to 13.9 (87) over St Kilda at Etihad Stadium last night.

Ablett's flying start to the game saw the visitors take a 32-point lead at the first change, for which they never went close to giving up.

The Suns' first-quarter momentum continued in the second period with a coast to coast goal to Luke Russell, Russell scoring from 45m out in the 13th minute of the quarter.

Ablett (pictured) scored his fourth six minutes later, charging onto a ball inside the Saints' 50 after racking up his 15th possession.

The Saints did not kick their first goal of the second quarter until Farren Ray kicked truly in the 27th minute. They bounced back after a halftime spray.

But the Suns held off that charge in the final quarter, with both teams kicking three goals each.
