MANCHESTER City manager Pep Guardiola has issued a warning to English Premier League rivals, saying "we can do better" after defeating Stoke City 7-2.
City struck three times in the first 27 minutes at Eastlands, securing their sixth successive league win.
It was the first time they had scored seven goals under Guardiola and the second time they achieved that feat in the EPL.
Goals from Gabriel Jesus (2), Raheem Sterling, David Silva, Fernandinho, Leroy Sane and Bernando Silva's first City strike, sealed the win to put the Sky Blues two points clear on top of ladder, although Guardiola said it could get better.
"We can always do better but I cannot deny today was the best performance since I arrived here," he said.
"I am here to win, I am not here to entertain, but this is the way we want to play. Our confidence is high."
Second-placed Manchester United had to settle for a point at Anfield after a drab 0-0 draw with Liverpool.
Spurs moved third with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bournemoth for a first Wembley win this season, while there was a huge shock at Selhurst Park, with previously winless and goalless Crystal Palace breaking its drought with a 2-1 win over champion Chelsea.
Later in the day Watford piled more pressure on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger with a 2-1 success at Vicarage Road.
The win, thanks to goals from Troy Deeney and Tom Cleverly moved the Hornets to fourth spot.
Swansea finally won at home at the expense of Huddersfield 2-0.
The Swans moved out of the relegation zone up to 13th as England Under-21 striker Tommy Abraham scored his first league double.
At Turf Moor, Andy Carroll was sent off after picking up two yellow cards inside 99 seconds for West Ham.
The Hammers held on for a point with a 1-1 draw with Burnley.
