Chuck Berry honoured in hall of fame

ROCK pioneer Chuck Berry has been honoured by the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with an American Music Masters Award delivered to the 86-year-old.

Berry then took journalists on a tour of the museum's exhibit honouring his work as a powerfully influential artist.

Music magazine Rolling Stone reported that Berry reflected on the changes in the country since he first began playing racially segregated venues in America's south, and he became emotional about the presidency of Barack Obama.

"I never thought that a man with the qualities, features, and all that he has, could be our president," Berry said.

"My dad said, 'You may not live to see that day', and I believed him. I thank God that I have."

Berry is best known for his string of hits in the late 1950s including Johnny B. Goode.
