Christmas comes early at RSL club
DUE to a hectic schedule involving the club's end-of-year engagements, the Gatton RSL sub-branch decided it was better to hold its Christmas dinner in conjunction with the monthly general meeting on Saturday.
Starting at 6pm, the monthly meeting started with the playing of The Last Post, followed by a minutes silence to remember our fallen comrades, before the opening of business.
Some notable items mentioned was that the Relay for Life team raised $4302.65 for Queensland Cancer Council.
This is the second-highest amount from all the teams that took part in this year's event.
A TIP Welfare course will be held in Ipswich at a date to be confirmed.
The local girl guides, who assist the sub-branch at local commemorative services, have had their application for a wall oven approved.
Also mentioned was the refurbishing of the services club, which is expected to be completed before Christmas.
After the meeting closed, members and their partners sat down at tables covered in white table cloths and adorned with items of Christmas cheer for a hearty yuletide feast of turkey, ham and roast vegies.
Also on the menu were prawns and oysters, and this was washed down with beer, wine or fruit juice.
Dessert followed with a generous serving of plum pudding, ice cream and custard.
After the clearing of tables, one couple gave a lively demonstration of rock-a-billy and rock ‘n' roll to the enthralled gathering of more than 60 people.
