Teacher took photos of naked students: court

CHILD sex charges against a former teacher at a Toowoomba Catholic school are to be taken up to the higher court for finalisation.

The 44-year-old man is accused of hosting two male students at his home where pornographic images were shown and nude photographs taken in the mid-1990s.

The man and the school cannot be identified for legal reasons.

He has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to the charges which include two counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 (expose) and one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16 (take photograph).

He was not in Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday when the charges were mentioned.

Solicitor Claire Graham, acting for the man's Southport-based solicitors, told the court she had been instructed to seek an adjournment so the matters could be taken up to the District Court by way of registry committal hearing.

Magistrate Graham Lee therefore remanded the man on bail and adjourned the case for mention on October 14 by which time the registry committal should have been done.
