Police charge youth following Cherbourg school fire

WEDNESDAY, 8AM: POLICE have arrested four youths following a fire at Cherbourg State School on Tuesday afternoon.

Police and emergency services were called to the Fisher St schoool about 5pm following reports of a fire in one of the school buildings.

The structure sustained significant damage as a result of the blaze.  

An 11-year-old boy has been charged with arson while three juvenile males aged 6, 7 and 9 will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

TUESDAY, 6PM: A building at Cherbourg State School has collapsed in flames as four fire crews fought to save it. 

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said the blaze was called in at 3.57pm today. 

She said the building was well alight when fire crews arrived and collapsed as they were on the scene. 

"We had four crews on the scene and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus," the spokeswoman said. 

Police will now investigate the scene in order to assess if there was any foul-play.
