Charges laid over $150,000 road monitoring gear theft

DETECTIVES have charged a 38-year-old man over the theft of Main Roads monitoring equipment between the Coast and north Brisbane.

Their investigations started after they found equipment valued about $150,000 at Beerwah and Murrumba Downs last Thursday.

Police will allege batteries, switchboard cabinets, monitoring equipment and machinery were stolen from locations at Bruce Hwy in Beerburrum, Steve Irwin Way in Beerburrum, Steve Irwin Way in Landsborough, Tilley Rd in Chandler and Steve Irwin Way in Beerwah between October 18 last year and January 2.

The 38-year-old Murrumba Downs man has been charged with 15 counts each of wilful damage and stealing, two counts of possessing tainted property and one count of possessing a drug utensil.

He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 31.
