Celebrations put on hold

THE Somerset region will have to wait for their Australia Day Celebrations with the annual events and awards postponed due to complications presented by flood waters.

Somerset Regional Mayor, Graeme Lehmann said the normal venues used for the festivities had been flooded, and other arrangements are being made.

“Our major event was at Wivenhoe Dam and it's closed for the moment, so we had cancel that, but we won't be cancelling everything completely,” he said.

“We will make sure that we do things properly when we are back on track.

“Our brand new Sports Centre in Fernvale was flooded so that venue is out as well.”
