Carmichael on track to start next year

THE Carmichael Coal Mine is set to get under way early next year despite ongoing legal wrangling, Premier Campbell Newman believes.

Speaking in Townsville yesterday, Mr Newman said he expected Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would announce the mine, run by Indian company Adani, would get under way in 2015.

An Adani spokesman said the company had been clear about its timeline and always intended on beginning preparatory work early next year.
