Carlisle might get job on Swans’ stars

ESSENDON coach Mark Thompson could use under-fire Jake Carlisle in defence tonight at Etihad Stadium as he works out a way to stop Sydney Swans' twin towers Kurt Tippett and Lance Franklin.

Carlisle has been out of form for most of this season after Thompson pushed him up forward.

And after kicking four goals in eight games, he could now move back to tackle either Tippett or Franklin.

"We've certainly talked about a lot of scenarios and that was one of them," Thompson said when asked about Carlisle moving into defence.

"We're not 100% sure as we stand right now."

Franklin has kicked 50 goals in 10 games against the Bombers, including a bag of eight last season opposed to Carlisle.

Thompson said the Bombers would need to lift their own game 20 to 30% and put pressure on the Swans forwards.

"They're at the top of their game right now, 'Buddy' and all of the other forwards," he said.
