Career in limbo

THE political future of Peter Dutton is up in the air after he lost a pre-selection battle for the Gold Coast seat of McPherson.

Dutton, who is the current Member for Dickson, appears to have no seat to contest in for the next election, after he ruled out contesting any other seat for the election.

Dutton was rejected for local Karen Andrews in the seat of McPherson, leaving him in the wilderness.

“I made a decision to seek pre-selection in the seat of McPherson,” he said.

“That was after we had a terrible outcome in the redistribution.

“In making my decision to run for pre-selection in the seat of McPherson into consideration the ramifications and I accept full responsibility for those ramifications.”

Dutton has ruled out running for the senate and unless a seat opens up is unlikely to be contesting a spot in the next election.

“At the moment there is not another option.

“There's 12 months presumably before the next federal election and we'll see how things play out between now and then.

“My focus now is to take the fight up to the Labor Party.

“I want to make sure that we win the next election.

“I want to make sure that in some form or other I can continue my service to the Australian public.”
