Carbon tax is ALP's end: Hockey

IN THE wake of the LNP's landslide win in Queensland, the Gillard Government's only hope of winning back voters was to dump the carbon tax, shadow treasurer Joe Hockey told a meeting in Tewantin yesterday.

On the day the LNP State Member Glen Elmes was officially declared the winner in Noosa with a primary vote of 60%, Mr Hockey (pictured) read more doom and gloom for Labor at a federal level if they proceeded with a tax on carbon emissions.

Attending a lunch in support of National Party Leader and Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss, Mr Hockey was more than happy to draw parallels between Labor's predicament at state and federal levels.

"The Queensland election was very much about broken promises - the next federal election will be about broken promises," he said.

"So far I haven't met one supporter of the carbon tax in Queensland and quite frankly that's because Queenslanders know it's going to increase the everyday cost of living."

Mr Hockey said everyone on the Coast would be affected by the tax, including the tourism industry that runs buses and hotels, charter boats and businesses involved in construction because "the carbon tax is a tax on energy".
