Vani Naidoo reports on her progress as she tests out the Paleo diet for a month
OKAY, so week two of this great diet experiment has left me a little bit frustrated.
The blush of the first week, that enthusiasm at starting something new, has ebbed a touch, with reality making a hurried entrance through the door.
In theory, eating a diet of meat, good fats and vegetables with the occasional fruit thrown in seems easy enough to do.
In practice, not so much.
Tired of looking at eggs and unable to conceive eating a steak for breakfast, I have returned to my trusted protein shake with almond milk ... and suddenly life is almost bearable again.
Now, before I get a call from you Paleo aficionados telling me the ancient man had no access to blenders and protein powder, let me say - when you call, can you also explain how it is that bacon and ham get the Paleo tick but grains, eaten as staples by civilisations for hundreds of years, don't make the cut?
Why is it that as soon as something goes on the "you can't have it list", you can't help but crave it.
Two weeks ago I could walk past a loaf of bread without even glancing in its direction.
Now, I put myself in its path gazing at it longingly, dreaming of a slice of hot toast slathered in butter.
The biggest challenge this week were social occasions, including a friend's tapas-style birthday dinner, where despite my good intentions I succumbed to a few temptations.

Weight lost: None, zilch, zippo
Proud of: Not stealing the kids' hot chips - not even one
Stumbling block: Eating out for a friend's birthday
Instruments of torture: Bread and wine
Succumbed to: Icy pole, bread (2 slices) and wine (hmmm)
Crankiness factor: 6 (before the wine)
