Caravan drug dealer appeals to court for shorter sentence

A MACKAY drug trafficker has appealed the eight-year sentence he was ordered to serve for dealing from a caravan at the back of a shop.

James Daniel Briggs argued in the Court of Appeal in Brisbane on Tuesday that his sentence was manifestly excessive.

Police found $5000 cash, drugs, syringes and a phone used to traffick drugs when they raided the caravan he was using in South Mackay.

Briggs, who was set for parole release in November 2014, pleaded guilty in the Mackay Supreme Court in March.

He represented himself briefly via video link from prison in the Court of Appeal, which has reserved its decision.
