Punters' amazing escape as vehicle crashes through TAB
A QUIET bet at the TAB could well have turned out to be the worst punt of their life for six local men.
They were forced to duck for cover as an out of control vehicle ploughed through Goodna's St Ives TAB late yesterday afternoon.
One punter, Sam Aokuso, was sitting on a stool and watched the car pass just metres to his side and into the back of the shop.
He couldn't believe his lucky escape.
"I was sitting on the table and watching the sport on the TV, and I looked outside and could see the car coming through with the headlights on," he said.
"I saw it keep coming through at 50kmh. Oh man! I was in shock.
"When it came through the inside and hit the window it was like - boom!"
Mr Aokuso said one regular was particularly lucky to escape.
An elderly man who sits by the shop's window moved away only two minutes before the crash.
Mr Aokusa did not pick up any money betting on the horses yesterday afternoon, but believes he had a big win by walking away unscathed from the incident.
A 20-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was taken to the PA Hospital in a stable condition after he was removed from the car by firefighters.
His mother was driving the car.
The car left a trail of carnage as it went through the TAB and almost broke through the rear wall.
Police investigations continue.
