LATEST: POLICE have ruled out the man depicted in CCTV footage as a suspect in a sexual assault in Mooloolaba.

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Mick Doogue said the man had come forward to police and had been ruled out.

He said police were now following other leads to try and find the person responsible.

"Police are now reviewing footage and hoping that the review will highlight another possible suspect."

Police are still urging any witnesses to come forward and share any information they may know.

UPDATE: POLICE have said that the woman that was sexually assaulted in Mooloolaba on Monday morning was a cleaner using the bathroom in between jobs.

Detective Acting Inspector Daren Edwards said that the woman was just about to leave to go to another job when she was pushed from behind and forced into a cubicle by her attacker.

He said that the woman was fortunate that she was physically strong and fit and was able to eventually struggle free.

Det Act Insp Edwards said the incident was very alarming and out of character for Mooloolaba.

He said police were still hoping that a group of runners that were nearby when the assault happened and a man walking his dog would come forward to police.

UPDATE: POLICE are still urging anyone with information surrounding the sexual assault of a woman in Mooloolaba on Monday morning to come forward.

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Mick Doogue said the assault occurred in a public toilet on Mooloolaba Esplanade at around 5am.

"A woman entered the toilet and was assaulted from behind and then forced into a cubicle where she was sexually assaulted," he said.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Doogue said they had CCTV of a man they were looking to identify in relation to the incident but were also looking for any motorists who were driving past the public toilets on Mooloolaba Esplanade at around 5am to also come forward.

"We're not saying that the person is a suspect but they were in the area at the time and are wearing clothing that matches the description provided to police.

"Anyone else in Mooloolaba Esplanade at 5am on Monday that may have seen someone who has quite a distinctive description of 6ft 3 inches wearing dark pants, a dark hoody and a dark cap under the hoody, if they could come forward and anyone who was driving in that area between 5am and 5.15am that has dash cam footage if they could come forward as well."

EARLIER: POLICE investigating the sexual assault of a woman earlier this week in Mooloolaba are seeking the public's help.

About 5am on Monday, June 27 the woman was sexually assaulted by a man in a public toilet at the Mooloolaba Esplanade.

The man is described as being around 190cm tall, wearing a black hooded jacket with a black cap underneath and black pants.

Police are seeking public assistance to identify the man as he may be able to assist with their investigation.

Additionally, anyone who may have been in the area at this time or has dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident is urged to come forward.
