DEHYDRATED stir-fries, a washing machine and outdoor air-conditioner are a few of the luxury camping items now on the market.

With more than 30 years experience, Powers Camping World owner Greg Power has seen many changes to the camping industry.

His younger co-worker Sam Anderson said they have had some odd requests from customers.

"We had a customer come in and ask for a 'solar power snake scarer'.

"We didn't know these existed but they do."

Mr Power offered some tips for camping with the bare essentials through to those after a more luxurious experience.

"For a basic experience all you really need is a good light, bed, camping oven and pop up tent," he said.

"For a more luxurious experience, you can buy a decent sized tent for around $500 and furnish it as you like."

As for where to go National Parks Minister Steve Dickson recommended some of the top locations in Queensland.

"Fraser Island, Inskip and Cooloola were the most popular destinations last year," he said.

"With a wide variety of national parks to choose from, there really is something for everyone."

Mr Dickson encouraged those planning a camping trip to book now.

"Christmas is the busiest time of year with a quarter of the state's annual camping trips in national parks and forests taking place over the summer school holidays," he said.
