Caloundra balcony-climber faces four burglary charges

A CALOUNDRA man will face four charges of burglary after a spate of pre-dawn robberies.

In the brazen break-ins, the 30-year-old allegedly climbed on to the balconies of unit blocks in Caloundra's Gay Terrace and Maloja Avenue, entering each home through unlocked doors.

Police searched a property on Caloundra Rd, finding an iPad, expensive cameras, wallets and credit cards taken from his apparent victims, some of whom were tourists from overseas.

He is now to face Caloundra Magistrate's Court on four counts of burglary and a single charge for drug possession.

Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards of Sunshine Coast CIB said everyone needed to keep their homes locked up.

"Some of the units that were broken into were located on the third and fourth floors," he said.

"Being located on higher levels of a building does not offer security.

"Please be sure to lock your doors and windows when leaving the premises and to do the same at night."

"To the opportunistic thief, it is very hard to pass up an easy target like an unsecured premises."
