THE quick actions of bystanders have been recognised as saving a deliberately-lit fire from burning down a Coast business.
Courtney Jayne Dickson, 21, pleaded guilty on Monday to endangering property by fire for lighting up a section of thatched grass that adorned The Brazilian Hut in Noosa Heads.
Maroochydore District Court heard Dickson had been drinking alcohol before she lit the fire about 9pm on August 25 last year.
Bystanders were credited with putting the fire out before it spread to the rest of the building.
Defence barrister Simon Lewis said "it was a gross act of stupidity".
"There seems to be a correlation between her getting in trouble and her drinking alcohol," Mr Lewis said.
Judge Gary Long said the act had the potential to have caused the building to catch fire.
"Fortunately for all concerned associates of yours acted promptly to extinguish the fire," Judge Long said.
Dickson was placed on a three-year probation order and ordered to pay $260.40 compensation for the fire damage.
No conviction was recorded.
