Businesses open hearts to victims

LOCALS have banded together in an effort to raise money in support of those impacted by the floods.

One creative effort is the Flooding Memories sale in Laidley.

Organiser Margaret Wildsmith said Flooding Memories would be a sale of flowering plants and small trees.

“We care about the flood victims and giving money is one thing, but by buying this plant you have something that is a little reminder that will honour those that lost their lives in the floods,” she said.

The Plainland resident said the trees and plants will be on sale at the Laidley Friday markets and at Australia Day festivities.

“We hope to sell them with a little help from the Laidley Garden Club for a very small price,” she said.

“We are thinking about 50 cents a tree.

“We will be doing it over a number of weeks until we have enough money before we will hand it over to Steve Jones at Lockyer Valley Regional Council.”

Golden North Nursery's Denis Zammit will donate the plants to be sold.

Residents are encouraged to donate money to the victims devastated by this tragedy.

The money will help communities rebuild and give hope for the future.
