Distillery digs deep for QLD

THE Bundaberg Distilling Company and parent company Diageo have committed $750,000 towards helping Queensland recover from the flood crisis.

The donation will be spread across three areas – a cash donation to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal, a financial contribution to emergency services in the Bundaberg region, and a series of events organised by the rum distillery to raise further funds for flood recovery in the area.

A spokeswoman for the company said the distillery had endured floods and fires of its own and, while not seriously affected in the most recent flood, wanted to support the community in which it has grown up.

The spokeswoman said because the distillery’s East Bundaberg site was surrounded by floodwaters, it had an impact on supplies and delivery, but the Bondstore was now open and operating normally.

“The distillery team is focused on supporting colleagues, families and friends whose homes have been affected,” she said.

More information on fundraising events will be made available soon.
