THE smell of rubber and the chance to see some of the best drag racers in the business will ensure bumper crowds turns out for the Winternationals this weekend.

More than 400 cars and bikes from across the nation are expected to be on-track over the two big days of racing.

The iconic event is the largest championship drag racing event held outside of North America.

Pro Stock, Pro Bike, Pro Slammer and Top Fuel dragsters will be in action today with the finals in all 19 categories commencing from 2.45pm tomorrow.

The Top Fuel dragsters hit speeds of more than 500km per hour in less than four seconds off the starting line and the vehicles register on the richter scale when thundering down the track.
