Buddy back to his best as Swans break duck

IT DIDN'T take long for Lance Franklin to get whiff of blood.

The end result? Destructive and match-winning.

But at the same time, the superstar Swan could also find himself under the Match Review Panel's scrutiny today.

After registering just six goals from his previous four games, Franklin - and his Sydney teammates - returned to form in exhilarating fashion on Sunday afternoon as the Swans dismantled a hapless Brisbane Lions outfit at the SCG.

The 30-year-old produced his best game of the season to date, booting 8.4 from 16 disposals and nine marks (six inside 50), with his eighth coming just before the stroke of full-time.

"It was nice just to hit the scoreboard," Franklin told Fox Footy. "This year I've been a little bit off and inconsistent with my game, so hopefully I can be a little bit more consistent going forward now."

But Franklin is set for a nervous 24 hours, with a jumper punch on Lion Nick Robertson during the third term set to be assessed - and potentially punished - by the MRP.

Robertson gave Franklin an off-the-ball shove late in the third term, which was met by a glancing Buddy strike - a hit that was picked up by TV cameras but not by the umpires. Robertson retaliated in aggressive style, throwing Franklin to the ground, giving away a free kick and sparking a mini melee.

Franklin would convert another goal, but it could cost him a week on the sidelines

Commentators and fans alike had an inkling that Franklin was set for a big day very early on.

He kicked the opening goal of the game - from outside the 50m arc - within the first minute. Then halfway through the quarter, he received a handball in the middle of the SCG, took one bounce, sprinted away and unloaded a long left-foot bomb from 67m out that sailed through for a thrilling goal.

Yep, the confidence was back - and the tone was officially set.
