Bucks coach happy to welcome Delly back

BASKETBALL: Boomers star and NBA Finals winner Matthew Dellavedova looks set for a return from injury when the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Washington Wizards today (AEST).

The Aussie, who won the NBA title with Cleveland last season before switching to the Bucks, has been absent from the past five matches with a right hamstring complaint.

His team has won three and lost two in his absence and lies seventh on the eastern conference standings but now the point guard is back.

"Delly's cleared to return tomorrow,” the Bucks tweeted yesterday.

The 26-year-old trained with the side on the weekend and declared himself ready to go again.

"I feel good,” Dellavedova told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

"I'm looking forward to getting out there. It's never fun watching.”

Dellavedova started 30 games for the Bucks before suffering the injury in the win over Detroit on December 28.

Coach Jason Kidd said the team had missed Dellavedova, whose place in the team had been filled by rookie Malcolm Brogdon.

"Just his toughness and his execution,” Kidd said.

"Malcolm has done an excellent job.

"But having Delly, another point guard, we've been short-handed.

"So it's good to get Delly back.”
