VIDEO: Schoolyard bullies encourage brutal bashing

DISTURBING footage has emerged of schoolyard bullies encouraging the sickening bashing of a teenage boy for social media glory.

In a video seen by the Chronicle, a group of teenagers can be seen gathering around a smaller student, swearing and urging a male aggressor to "just f***ing hit" him.

One boy warns "grab him before the teacher comes" before the bigger boy pushes his victim over a rail and into a garden and repeatedly punches him in the face to a chorus of "smash him" and "get him".

The Chronicle understands the victim was expecting the attack, which was apparently organised as "retribution" for an earlier incident involving a game of handball.

Commentary seems scripted and filming pre-planned but the assault itself is real and has prompted a stern warning from Hervey Bay State High principal Julie Learoyd.

"Hervey Bay State High School has a zero tolerance approach to violence and poor behaviour," Ms Learoyd said

"As principal, I will be taking strong disciplinary action against the alleged perpetrator, as well as any student involved in organising, filming, uploading footage to social media, or even encouraging violence of this nature," she said.

"I make no apology for taking a hard line when the safety and wellbeing of our students is compromised."

The video captures just one of a series of violent incidents in the region's schools which have made for a troubling month.

Police have confirmed a 15-year-old Urangan High School student, who stabbed another boy two weeks ago with a weapon crafted in a metal work class, was dealt with under the Juvenile Justice Act.

Investigations are continuing into an alleged assault at the Glendyne toilet block and grievous bodily harm charges are expected to be laid after an 11-year-old primary school student was injured when a musical instrument was allegedly thrown at his face.
