Broncos' star halfback in line for return from injury

BRISBANE is set to welcome back Ben Hunt to its side to tackle the Wests Tigers on Friday night.

The star halfback got through training yesterday and was named to play after spending six weeks out with a hamstring injury.

Kodi Nikorima has stepped up in the absence of Hunt, playing no small part in the Broncos winning five straight games to move into the top four.

But Brisbane prop Adam Blair said Hunt's return was a boost.

"Kodi has been doing a fantastic job. We've managed to win some games without Ben," he said.

"But it does boost the confidence knowing your key playmaker is coming back.

"He has looked sharp at training. He's been running around the last couple of weeks."

Centre James Roberts (ankle) was also named and looks set to return after training strongly.

The Broncos played down any concerns for representative forwards Matt Gillett and Josh McGuire after they were on light duties at training.

"The coach took me off early just to freshen me up a little bit," Gillett said.

Gillett, meanwhile, said he felt for Manly fullback Tom Trbojevic after the Broncos received criticism for celebrating the tackle that led to him suffering ankle and knee injuries.

The Broncos posted a tweet and online story, claiming winger David Mead's tackle that injured the NSW Origin hopeful for up to eight weeks was a "great play".

The Broncos later apologised and removed the tweet and story from their website.

"As players, you don't want to see anything like that happen. We feel for Tom," Gillett said.
