Man refused bail over alleged daylight rape on Ballina beach

TUESDAY 9.15am: A 33-year-old man has been refused bail following the alleged rape of a 29-year-old woman on an East Ballina beach on Sunday.

The man appeared before Lismore Local Court yesterday.

There he was remanded in custody and bail refused to appear before the Lismore Local Court on August 2.


MONDAY 11.30am: A MAN has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at Ballina yesterday.

About 10.30am on Sunday, a 29-year-old woman was at a beach in East Ballina when a 33-year-old man allegedly sexually assaulted her, police said.

The man was chased and detained by witnesses before being arrested by police from Richmond Local Area Command.

The man was taken to Ballina Police Station and charged with sexual intercourse without consent.

He was refused bail and will appear before Lismore Local Court today.
