Teen fronts court for crash that killed Hope Dell

THE teen who was driving a car when it crashed, killing 17-year-old Hope Dell, was sentenced in court today.

Jameson Mark Routledge, 18, was sentenced to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle with circumstances of aggravation by taking part in an unlawful race and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

He was sentenced to 2-and-half years for second count and 6 months for first count wholly suspended and to be served concurrently

On December 11, 2014 on Caloundra Rd, Caloundra, Hope Dell was a passenger in a car being driven by him which had earlier been racing another car being driven by a friend.

The other car slowed down about 150m before roundabout. Routledge's car lost control and spun about 180degrees, slamming into tree. Passenger side where Hope was sitting took most impact.

Routledge himself was seriously injured.

Hope's mother, Faye Read, spoke in court, saying it was "the night my world was taken away."

She described her daughter as a "beautiful" an fun loving young lady" who "owned every second that life gave her".

"That joy, that beauty, that spirit has been taken away," she said.
