UPDATE | AFTER he was hit by a vehicle, a man who was only trying to do the right thing suffered bruising and injuries to his leg.
Last night, Queensland Police and Ambulance Service responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian incident.
The victim told The Observer the accident occurred after several contributing factors aligned.
He said he and his friend had been driving around on Thursday night when they spotted a Brown Snake on the bitumen.
The man who was struck said he was essentially hit because he had been down low, on a road, wearing dark clothing at night.
But it was his desire to rescue the snake that caused the already dangerous trifecta to become the perfect recipe for disaster.
After he was hit by a passing vehicle, the man was taken to Gladstone Hospital in a stable condition.
He said it was Emergency Services who told him that the snake had died in the accident.
