A 13-year-old boy has died at the scene of a single vehicle crash on the Bruce Hwy near Carmila this morning.

Paramedics were called to the scene about 10am to treat three patients - a woman in her 40s, the 13-year-old boy and a nine-year-old boy.

About 11am, a Queensland Ambulance spokesperson told the Daily Mercury that paramedics had reported the 11yo had died at the scene.

The woman was treated for muscular injuries and the 9yo for an ankle injury.

The pair is reportedly being taken by road ambulance to Mackay Base Hospital.

It is understood the car ran into Gillinbin Creek near Carmila.

The highway is blocked in both directions until further notice.

*Note: An earlier version of this story referred to the boy's age as 11 as the Queensland Ambulance Service advised, but family members have told the Mercury the boy was 13 years old.
