Four-year-old boy bitten by snake in Rockhampton

QUEENSLAND Ambulance Services transported a four-year-old boy to the Rockhampton Hospital this afternoon after he was bitten on the hand by a snake in Fairy Bower.  

A QAS spokesman confirmed officers were called to the incident about 4.30pm.  

The spokesman said it is unknown what type of snake bit the boy, but he was in a stable condition.  

Queensland Health advise if a snake bite occurs:

  • move the patient to a safe location and do not attempt to kill, catch or move the snake,
  • call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance,
  • do not wash the wound,
  • use the pressure-immobilisation technique and,
  • take the patient to the nearest hospital's emergency department.
