DANIEL Bowles is looking to sure up a spot in the Brisbane Roar senior squad after yesterday missing out on selection in the Young Socceroos squad for the FIFA under 20 World Cup.

Young Socceroos coach Jan Versleijen announced his 21-man squad yesterday for the July 29-August 20 tournament in Columbia.

Despite being a regular face in Australia's under 20s set-up in the lead-up, Toowoomba junior Bowles was philosophical about his omission when he spoke with The Chronicle.

“I'm disappointed of course but it's not the end of the world,” he said.

“I was fairly confident going into it but I didn't know what to expect, given there were some really good players to choose from.”

The 19-year-old is now hopeful of securing a full-time contract with defending A-League champions Brisbane Roar after earning a short-term senior contract last season following impressive performances in the club's National Youth League side.

He expects to find out whether he is included in coach Ange Postecoglou's squad within a fortnight. “I've been training well and hopefully the coaches see that,” Bowles said.
